Wrong Way Traffic
Why do we all (in America that is) drive on the right side of the road, passing opposing traffic on our left sides - but when we're walking on sidewalks or in store aisles we walk all over the place with absolutely no regard for other people???
I've often wondered why huge stores with huge aisles (like _ _ _ Mart) don't paint directional arrows on each side of the aisle to keep traffic moving smoothly. Maybe they could even post stop signs at the corners of intersecting main aisles. Just a suggestion.
Instead shoppers walk "against" traffic, or at least against how traffic should be flowing, and then they park their carts crossways in aisles. They stop in groups in the middle of traffic to chat or peruse stock.
When I shop I'm always careful to be mindful of other shoppers. I pull my cart to the side if I stop. I don't walk in front of people who are clearly looking at something. I walk on the "right" side of the aisle....that is until I run into someone walking the opposite direction on the same side who refuses to budge. I pause when I'm coming out of an aisle so I don't go flying into some other cart traveling on an intersecting aisle.
Come on - we've all had drivers ed! Why is it so hard to apply those same techniques to the shopping centers?
The MALLS!! Oh my gosh they are the worst! Hundreds - even thousands - of people walking in all directions and standing or stopping any darn place they choose. Again - why do the malls not paint directional arrows on each side of the walk way to keep everyone traveling one direction?? It would alleviate so much shopping stress.
Retailers unite...for once. Figure it out! Start really thinking of the shoppers and make some much needed changes.
That's it.
